Hoa Sen Design Week 2024 – Day 3 | NET ZERO, A MATTER FOR ALL
🌳The talk show “Green Buildings Toward Net Zero 2050” continued to be an insightful event that further clarified the meaning of the theme “Human-Centered Design”, as part of the design week jointly organized by the Faculty of Art & Design of Hoa Sen University and the Vietnam Design Association HCMC (VDAS Design Association – HCMC Vietnam). The event took place on the morning of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in Classroom 406, No. 8 Nguyen Van Trang Street.

👨🏫Ths. Architect Vu Linh Quang (Executive Director of ARDOR Green, one of Vietnam’s leading green building consulting firms) was specially invited by the Faculty to speak. With years of experience in construction and active involvement in green building initiatives to promote sustainable design and raise community awareness, the speaker pointed out the benefits of green buildings, the current barriers, and future challenges.

🌏During the session, several concepts were clarified, such as the fact that a “green building” might have few trees outside yet still achieve the highest level of green certification. In contrast, a building with many plants, gardens, and nature-integrated landscaping is called a “+green building.” A truly “green” architectural work or interior space must be designed passively from the beginning, offering health benefits, biodiversity, and the use of human-friendly materials and lighting.
🌏Continuing his talk, the speaker introduced the LEED international green building rating system and the EDGE certification system. In Vietnam, over 400 projects in residential and hotel sectors, and 25 office buildings, have received green building certification. Moreover, the Net Zero concept has spread to other industries such as tourism, fashion, wood processing, fisheries, and logistics—creating healthy and ethical competition based on green certification.

🌏With the intimate classroom setting and real-world project examples, students gained valuable knowledge on sustainable design solutions from architecture to interiors. As Vietnam is projected to be among the top 5 countries most affected by climate change by 2050, Hoa Sen students—as future designers—share the responsibility. Each individual must understand, research, and approach multidisciplinary knowledge to confidently integrate with the global community, working hand in hand toward Net Zero 2050.
