According to the announcement from the jury of the international competition "Colorama Award 2021," the First Prize this year has been awarded to Võ Thị Kim Hằng – a Master's student (Cohort 5) in Applied Arts from the Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts, Ton Duc Thang University.

The Colorama Award is a design competition focused on innovation and creativity, held annually in October by Filmar (Italy). This award is an initiative by Filmar to inspire fashion students to develop creative ideas and introduce new trends in fabric texture and seasonal colors using eco-friendly materials. The First Prize of the “Colorama Award 2021” includes a cash prize of 2,000 EUR and an opportunity to commercialize the winning designs.

With the theme “Inclusiveness for Reducing Inequalities,” Thu Hằng’s designs completely won over the “Colorama Award 2021” jury – comprised of prestigious designers and creative directors from Italy. Through her Spring/Summer 2022 collection for both men and women, Thu Hằng aims to convey a humanitarian message in today’s turbulent world:

"The world will gradually recover after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Earth has already reached its limits. So what is truly needed for the world’s development today? In my view, it is the development of humanity. Together, we can rebuild the world, where inequality is reduced by narrowing the gaps between social classes, races, and genders. The Earth will become a safe and happy place for everyone.
I want to create a fashion collection inspired by the red dragon fruit – a popular fruit grown in Vietnam. In early 2020, due to the pandemic, many red dragon fruit farmers could not export their products to international markets. To help them avoid bankruptcy and overcome the crisis, social media influencers in Vietnam launched promotional campaigns for the fruit, while several businesses created innovative products using it as a key ingredient. Thanks to these efforts, red dragon fruit bread was born, warmly received by consumers, and even became a market sensation.
My collection suggests using the flesh and peel of the red dragon fruit to dye fabric – an eco-friendly solution that also encourages people to wear pink with pride. This is also an idea aimed at creating new demand for red dragon fruit, a product with massive annual output in Vietnam."

Based on this concept and message, Thu Hằng created a collection using environmentally friendly materials while breaking gender color norms. The main color palette features a higher ratio of pink in the menswear collection than in the womenswear, and conversely, more blue tones appear in the womenswear. To complete her message, Thu Hằng included an image of Tlinh in her Mood Board.

Tlinh is a rising young artist in Vietnam known for conveying messages about gender equality through rap and hip-hop.
